TSA Highlighted the Busiest Days to Travel for Christmas and New Years
During this winter holiday season, the Transportation Security Administration TSA expects airports to be excessively busy and has issued a warning to travelers to come prepared. During the busiest days to travel this holiday season, the Travel Security Administration expects to screen on a daily basis more than 2.5 million passengers, which accounts for a 6 percent increase as compared to last year’s holiday season.
According to the TSA, the busiest days to travel during Christmas and New Year all across the United States of America are forecasted to be Thursday, December 21st, 2023, Friday, December 29, 2023, and Monday, January 1st, 2024. In 2022, the busiest day to travel was December 29. In a statement, the Administrator of the Travel Security Administration, David Pekoske said:
“We are prepared to handle the busy passenger volumes this winter holiday season,”
“TSA’s continued success during this record year for travel is a direct result of teamwork, planning, and professional execution across the agency, from our frontline employees to those behind the scenes; partnerships with airports and air carriers; and innovative checkpoint technologies that improve security effectiveness, efficiency and the passenger experience.”
Busiest Days to Travel
Airlines expect the start of Christmas and New Year to be the busiest days to travel. They in fact believe that this year’s crowds at the airport will break records as the holiday season follows an equally busy Thanksgiving during which the Travel Security Administration recorded the busiest day in its entire history. According to AAA, a total of 7.5 million travelers are forecast to fly during the holidays, making them the busiest days to travel.
Travel Security Administration Recommendations for the Busiest Days to Travel
During the busiest days to travel as the crowds will be plenty, the Travel Security Administration is recommending that travelers come prepared by knowing what they can and can’t bring through security. Holiday staples such as pies are fine to bring as long as they are in a carry-on bag, however, items like large bottles of eggnog must be sealed and placed in a checked bag. Also, travelers should not wrap the gifts and think twice about doing it as the TSA officers might unwrap them to inspect the contents.
Travelers who are unsure about what they can and can’t bring should visit the “What Can I Bring” page on the website of TSA. They can also ask the agency by either texting them a question at 275-872 or by messaging them with the @AskTSA handle on X, formally Twitter. They can also reach TSA via Facebook Messenger.
TSA also wants travelers to be aware of the new technology, like the CAT or Credential Authentication Technology that it is recently rolling out. Due to the CAT, travelers will be easily able to get through security without having to show a boarding pass or a physical ID. Another new technology that will be introduced is the full-size computer tomography or CT x-ray system that will be able to create 3D images of the items in the carry-ons so that the officers can easily detect things like explosives, weapons, and other items that are banned.
