This just in, the world’s best cruise line got its hands on the world’s biggest cruise ship. This week Royal Caribbean accepted delivery of the humongous 1,198-foot cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, that is dubbed as the world’s biggest cruise ship. The cruise company officially received the delivery of the imposing 20-deck, 250-800 ship on November 27 at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. The inaugural voyage of the world’s biggest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas is set to depart from the shores of Miami, Florida on the momentous date of 27th January 2023. The ship is set to tour the Caribbean for seven days.
According to the news released that was issued by the Royal Caribbean cruise line, it took about 900 days to build the glorious Icon of the Seas, the ship that harbours the capacity to hold a whopping 7,600 guests as well as 2,350 crew members, nearly 10,000 people, that is almost equal to the population of a small town. The CEO and president of the Royal Caribbean Group, Jason Liberty said during a ceremony at the shipyard on Monday:
“Today, we are celebrating more than a new ship; it’s also the celebration of the culmination of more than 50 years of innovation and dreaming at Royal Caribbean to create the ultimate vacation experience,”
Icon of the Seas – The Ultimate Cruising Experience
When the Icon of the Seas sets sail next year in January, it will offer its esteemed guests eight different neighborhoods to explore as well as 40 bars and dining options. Among these eight neighborhoods, is Thrill Island which will feature Category 6 aka the largest waterpark at sea. This neighbourhood will also harbour thrill rides and rope courses that will let adventure-seeking guests swing about 154 feet above the ocean waves. Guests will also find a mini golf course a FlowRider wave simulator in the Thrill Island.
On the other side of the cruise spectrum lies Chill Island which is home to four of the seven pools on Icon of the Sea as well as an adults-only zone. Over in the AquaDome guests will be met with a 55-foot-tall water curtain as well as the AquaTheater that will cast robots, divers, and skateboarders to put a show of a lifetime in front of the guests. Apart from being the world’s largest ship, Icon of the Seas also harbors many “world’s first” aspects like the Hideaway which will feature the world’s first suspended infinity pool at sea.
When it comes to accommodations and sleeping, the cruise ship harbours for its guests 28 varyingly styled suites and cabins including a three-level ultimate family townhouse. Being the ship harbouring many firsts, according to Royal Caribbean, the Icon of the Seas is the cruise line’s first ship that has the ability to be powered by liquified natural gas and is the first ship to house the waste to energy plant.
The Icon of the Seas which was originally scheduled for delivery in 2022, faced some obstacles in the form of Covid-19 that prevented it from hitting the seas earlier. However, the wait is over, and voyagers and cruises can finally embark on this Ship of the First to enjoy the plethora of things that this marvelous invention by Royal Caribbean has in store for them. The Royal Caribbean states that the Icon of the Seas is on its way to Cadiz, Spain for some final touches. Once that is done, the ship will set sail for its home in Florida.
