On Monday, 16th October, Disney ticked 100 years off the calendar, as it completed 100 rotations around the sun. Disney’s 100th-anniversary celebrations were nothing short of grandeur and splendor, with fans from all around the world celebrating the birth of a pioneering franchise that made their childhoods memorable.
On 16th October of the year 1923, Walt Disney was a fledging filmmaker in LA and made the biggest bet of his life as he signed a distribution deal for a series of live-action/animated comedy shorts about a girl in a wonderous cartoon land, setting the first brick for the company that will rule the future film making world. The mere sign on a contract opened a door to the development and production of 100 years of Disney magic that has enchanted the world for a century and is continuing to do so.
During the centennial celebration, Disney+ was decked in a logo that acknowledged the 100 wonderful years of Disney. Also added to the streaming platform were some special collections of series and films, that made Disney the entertainment giant it is today. Moreover, as part of ABC’s The Wonderful World of Disney: Disney’s 100th Anniversary Celebrations! Once Upon a Studio made its broadcast debut on Sunday, October 15. Once Upon a Studio is a special shot film, in which some of Disney’s most iconic characters from Mickey to Moana huddle together to take a group photo in honor of Disney’s 100th anniversary.
Moreover, the franchise also re-released its most popular and beloved animated films, The Lion King and Moana in theatres, which will be gracing the silver screens till October 26, adding allure to Disney’s 100th anniversary celebrations.
Disney’s 100th Anniversary Celebrations at Its Beloved Theme Parks
Disney’s 100th anniversary celebrations kicked off at the Disneyland Resort California on January 27th, 2023. The party started with the official openings of the two brand new nighttime spectaculars namely World of Color-One at Disney California Adventure Park and Wonderous Journeys at Disneyland Park. With the party ranging at the Disneyland Resort California, the Walt Disney World Resort Florida also came to life with its own festivities and celebrations. International Disney Parks also joined in the fun for the yearlong celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary.
In light of the celebrations, the theme parks were sprinkled with extra fairy dust and decked in platinum. From the Mickey Mouse gang to the Sleeping Beauty Castle, platinum was the color adorning every surface of the theme parks. All around the Disneyland Resort, platinum statues, and Medallions were also displayed for the celebrations. To celebrate 100 years Disneyland Park hosted a new exhibit, at the Disney Gallery: Disney 100 Years of Wonder.Â
Walt Disney World is also celebrating the 100 years of Disney at EPCOT, where the festivities will last till 31st December 2023. Also, the brand-new nighttime spectacular, Luminous the Symphony of Us will make its debut on 5th December 2023 in honor of Disney’s 100th anniversary. Disney also introduced new snacks at its theme parks to mark its 100 years and hosted a traveling exhibition that features many artefacts from the Walt Disney Archives Collection.Â
Other Celebrations
Walt Disney Animation Studios will release a new movie under the name of Wish on 22nd November 2023 in Homer of Disney’s 100th anniversary. Wish takes inspiration from classic Disney movies that explore how wishing on a star can be so powerful as to make all dreams come true. Disney also released its new merchandise collection that is available at official stores for purchase.Â
Moreover, Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia will also host a Disney Castle celebration for the company’s 100th birthday, from 22nd November. The castle will be home to a variety of shows that will take inspiration from Disney’s popular animated films. The event at Boulevard Riyadh City will celebrate Disney’s iconic music from its most popular animated films through exhilarating concerts and live performances in front of the Disney Castle.
